MOTM v. Huddersfield: Mark Davies

In a shocking turn of events, once again Bolton dropped points from a winning position in a disappointing fashion this weekend, this time in a 2-2 draw with Huddersfield.

Highlights of Huddersfield 2-2 Bolton

Bolton Wanderers drew for the fifth time in seven games on their most recent away trip, this time at Huddersfield Town. The Whites have no dropped the most points from winning positions in the division as the Terriers equalized late on (and nearly won it). The match was really a tale of Bolton being unlucky, being resurgent, and finally being beaten well.

Bolton take the lead through Davies and Eagles

After an absolutely dire first half from Bolton Wanderers, the team came out of the dressing room with a renewed sense of purpose and energy. Whatever Dougie Freedman said to his team at the halftime break worked a treat as Bolton came out and absolutely bossed the game. Possession was all Bolton's as they pegged Huddersfield Town back in their own half for the vast majority of the half until the equalizer.

Mark Davies in typical Mark Davies fashion made a mazy run through a number of defenders in light-blue-and-white shirts. He hit his shot from the edge of the box to bring it to 1-1.

A few minutes later, Sam Ricketts was brought down in the Huddersfield penalty area by fullback Paul Dixon. Chris Eagles stepped up to take and went for power. Goalkeeper Alex Smithies guessed the direction correctly and saved very well, keeping the game at 1-1.

Eagles would get his redemption though not long after. Mark Davies broke through the Huddersfield defense once more and found Chris Eagles very well. Eagles took his chance very well and that was Bolton taking the lead!

Huddersfield take the lead thanks to an own goal

Another game, another good Bolton start. The Trotters tested Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies on two occasions in the first ten minutes. Wanderers once again enjoyed the lion's share of possession and once again, it all came undone.

It was a rare Huddersfield break in the first ten minutes that was eventually put out by a Bolton man for a Huddersfield corner. James Vaughan delivered the ball into the box and Anthony Gerrard (Steven's cousin) rose highest to meet it. His header hit Zat Knight and went into the back of Adam Bogdan's net.

The Terriers took the game by the scruff of the neck after that and after 20 minutes, they enjoyed 67% of the possession. Huddersfield would come close a couple of more times, forcing Adam Bogdan saves and hitting the bar. Bolton came close after Smithies blocked a Mark Davies effort and Keith Andrews' shot on the rebound fizzed just over the crossbar.

Since the goal, Bolton have struggled to find their feet again.
