Following rumors of interest from Vancouver, Portland, and New York, the Vancouver Whitecaps have made the signing of Nigel Reo-Coker official.
The English midfielder, who spent a season with Bolton Wanderers before leaving immediately following the club's relegation to the Championship, has been made an official signing of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Nigel Reo-Coker has been without a club since leaving Ipswich Town following the conclusion of a short-term deal last month. According to the Whitecaps' press release, he will join his new club tomorrow. Terms of his contract were not disclosed.
Reo-Coker made 37 appearances for Bolton Wanderers and scored three goals, captaining the club on a number of occasions.
Head coach Martin Rennie seemed very happy with his new signing, saying:
"Nigel is a leader on and off the pitch. Although he is only 28, Nigel brings a lot of experience to our club and will be a great addition."
Nigel Reo-Coker, was of course thrilled:
"I am delighted to join Whitecaps FC. I have heard Vancouver is a great club, in an amazing city with fantastic supporters."
He will join another former Trotter with the Whitecaps in Andy O'Brien. We'll keep you informed of the progress of both players as the MLS season (which kicks off in nine days) runs its course.
