It was an encouraging performance, wasn't it? I looked at the extended highlights and you can certainly see more positives than negatives (Jay Spearing). Recently it's been difficult to pick a man of the match due to none of Bolton Wanderers' players actually looking like they want to do their job - normally the award goes to the striker who managed our one shot on target or to a defender who managed to last 90 minutes without making a mistake.
This week, it was easier as we had players who actually played well and one shone out for me and not because of his ginger hair - Adam Bogdan. I still agree with Dougie Freedman's statement that Bogdan is one of the best goalkeepers in the division. He's cut out the silly mistakes he was making at the start of his Wanderers career and is now established and safe. That being said, why he was left out of the team preseason and against Watford is something that cannot be answered. If he was available it's another mistake from our gaffer.
Yesterdays performance summed Bogdan up; His shot stopping was on point, his decision making when he came for corners and crosses was correct nearly every time. Even at the penalty, he trusted the research and his instincts and was unlucky not to keep it out. It's nice to have a few players to choose from, long may it continue.
