For a moment I actually thought we had a chance, but for the 3rd time this season the mighty Bolton Wanderers have been undone after taking the lead. As seen on many previous occasions this season and in seasons past we have become unstuck after scoring first. Now don't get me wrong I think for arguably the first time this season we had a pretty decent game with a lot of positives to take from both our forward and defensive play however the simple errors that are made cannot be considered acceptable for a Championship club.
Now you may ask what are these positives you speak of? An understandable question and here is the answer. Craig Davies is an absolutely new man this season, playing with a passion which hasn't been seen from a Wanderers player since Kevin Davies wore the strikers shirt. His work rate and effort into every loose ball and every scrappy challenge is an absolute delight to watch and is now what I look forward to seeing on a Saturday afternoon.
Another of these rare glimmers of hope we have received this season has been the introduction of Hayden White...wait who? White, who was brought into the side to make his first start of the season after the recent injury to Kevin McNaughton had an absolutely fantastic game at right back and has shown to Dougie Freedman that at the tender age of 19 he is ready to take the place of McNaughton during the course of his injury and perhaps even challenge the likes of Oscar Threlkeld and Joe Riley for the honour of owning the future of the right back spot in our starting 11.
Unfortunately our top goalkeeper Adam Bogdan was injured today after a clattering from our own boy wonder White and sustained a rather gruesome facial injury meaning that we had the pleasure of watching Andy Lonergan take on the gloves for the second half of todays game, and in fairness to him he actually had a quality second half bar the goal that he could possibly have done more to deal with. But I think the main worry for fans has to be the potential loss of Adam Bogdan for a second spell this season.
Now of course I am absolutely gutted that we haven't gained a win so far and I think our problems defensively will be our undoing this season, however the hope that I have been given from select players at this very early point of the Championship season allows me to take those positives that I have mentioned and use that to generate a positive outlook of the future of Bolton Wanderers, maybe not this season but soon the Wanderers will be ready.
