In a game of very few even half-decent performances there’s not really a lot of choice for Man of the Match from Bolton Wanderers’ 1-1 draw at MK Dons.
But the award goes to Jay Spearing, whose celebration after his fluke opening goal was synonymous with the kind of performances we expect from the little man.
Spearing’s goal, a floated free-kick cross that evaded everyone in the MK box, was the only ‘shot on target’ that any Bolton player mustered all match - even if it wasn’t actually a shot. He then led by example with a passionate performance amongst a team lacking passion, as the side hung on to take a point from a match devoid of quality.
He put in some vital tackles in midfield, showed a level of commitment that his teammates should take note of (i.e. Dean Moxey), and was generally head and shoulders above any player on our team.
