The words David Wheater and 'man of the match' have been said in the same sentence numerous times this season.
And once again, David Wheater has put in another man of the match performance.
Special mention goes to Gary Madine for playing with a shoulder injury.
Bolton Wanderers needed to beat Port Vale. Without a win in the previous three games, Wanderers had allowed Fleetwood Town to catch up and close the gap to two points. To allow the Cod Army to further close the gap would have been disastrous.
With the second half well underway, news broke among the near 4,500 Wanderers fans that Gillingham had taken the lead against Fleetwood. All Bolton needed was one goal. One goal to seal promotion.
And who got that goal? Only David bloody Wheater with a thumping header.
I don't think i've ever celebrated a goal with such enthusiasm as that one. I was too young to really appreciate the 1997 Title run and the 2001 Play-Off final against Preston North End, so to celebrate thinking we'd finally achieved promotion was fantastic.
It was also Bolton's 7000th league goal, so well done Wheats. To score eight goals in a season as a centre back is astounding.
Aside from that, Wheater and the rest of the defence all put in great performances at the back. Vale's attack, including former Wanderer Chris Eagles, barely got a chance throughout the game.
Three points and a clean sheet, can't beat that.
