Joey Barton.
He's young, he has talent, and he has an anger management issue. When Barton transferred from Manchester City to Newcastle United for £5.8 million, a lot was expected from him. He was even rated the 10th best tackler in the entirety of the Premier League. An angry Bolton have denied that they want the services of Joey Barton. My question to you is: do we want him?
As good a tackler as Barton is, Kevin Keegan had criticized Barton's approach to football as "excessive." In 5 years at Manchester City, Barton was booked 39 times with 3 red cards. On average, thats almost 8 bookings a year. Last year, El-Hadji Diouf was booked 11 times while Kevin Nolan and Kevin Davies were booked 10 times apiece. This team is problemsno stranger to yellow cards. The other issue is whether it's worth taking a risk on Barton's behavioral issues.
It's high risk but it has potential for high reward. Sign him for a year, try him out. How much money could Newcastle possibly ask for him?
