Bolton reserves are near bottom in their league. Shocking, we know. The Trotters' squad simply isn't large enough to field a Reserve side that the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool can. This fact brings with it a whole host of issues including that there is not much of a suitable punishment for first teamers that aren't performing up to snuff.
Enough about that though, today we've got some good news. Bolton Reserves drew 1-1 away to Newcastle in cold and windy conditions thanks to a Michael O'Halloran goal that came from six yards out by way of a Chris Lester cross to Tom Eaves that trickled to O'Halloran to level it in the second half. The draw takes Bolton Reserves off the bottom of their league, making them... second bottom.
The news does get even better though, however, you have to hit the jump to find out what's what.
In the draw, Bolton welcomed back three players that have been out injured for quite some time in Tom Eaves, Sam Ricketts, and (we couldn't believe it either) Sean Davis. Ricketts played the longest of the three, putting in an hour long shift while Thomas Eaves was introduced at halftime and finished the match. Sean Davis played the entirety of the first half. Davis looked dangerous, taking some long shots and creating a number of chances that the young Reserve Whites couldn't put away.
Sam Ricketts has been out since he ruptured his Achilles tendon against Wigan in the FA Cup Replay back in February. Eaves was injured during Bolton's tour of America where he hurt his knee against Orlando City SC. He was only expected to be out for six weeks but the lay-off has been much longer. Finally, Sean Davis. The reserve match was his first competitive action in 27 (twenty seven!) months. Hopefully the trio will see their way into the first team sooner rather than later and make an impact on this premier league campaign.
