Winter Transfer Rumor Roundup

An interpretive dance about how crap our defense is.
An interpretive dance about how crap our defense is.

It's that time of year again. A million and a half rumors about who Bolton Wanderers might sign where 99.99% will be nowhere near true. So far, the rumors center largely around defenders as it's no secret that the Trotters sorely need help at the back. With Gary Cahill to Chelsea supposedly a done deal, everyone on the back line that has allowed 41 goals so far this season is as good as replaceable.

Tim Ream

The American defender's supposed move to Bolton has picked up a lot of steam lately. His going rate at this point seems to be in the neighborhood of £2 million but that price seems high. True that Ream is young and has a lot of potential but question remain about whether his signature is even a possibility for the men in White.

Richard Dunne

Bolton have a history of attracting Villans to the side (both Gary Cahill and Zat Knight came straight to Bolton from Aston Villa) and Richard Dunne would be no different. At 32 years old, he's still a solid defensive option that should come with a reasonable price tag. Reports suggest that Villa manager Alex McLeish is desperate to rebuild his side after losing players over the summer and any cash coming in from the sale of players would bolster his funds.

Nedum Onuoha

Bolton tried to sign Onuoha in the summer but could not work out a deal with Manchester City for him. The Trotters once again are looking for the 25 year old full back's signature. If he does come to the Reebok, we wonder if he'll bring the Manchester City attitude problem (a la Martin Petrov and Dedryck Boyata) with him. Of course, Bolton aren't the only ones in the chase with the likes of Wolves, West Brom, Blackburn, Everton, Sunderland, Newcastle, QPR, and Everton all looking at him as well.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw

This defender has a lot of vowels in his name. He comes from Dutch Eridevisie side SC Heerenveen that also has a lot of vowels in its name. Bolton scouts traveled to watch his team play league leaders AZ Alkmaar in early December. He's young, at just 20 years old, and can prove to be a solid option for Bolton. His highlight reel shows his pace, strength, and confidence on the ball. Impressive.
