Who is Jeffrey Gouweleeuw?

So many vowels. There are way too many vowels in that last name. That's a ridiculous consonant to vowel ratio of 2:3. Absolutely unreal. That's really beside the point though.

Jeffrey Gouweleeuw of SC Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie has emerged as a Bolton Wanderers transfer target for the winter window. He's not exactly a household name yet but at just 20 years old, he certainly can be in the near future. Hit the jump to learn a little more about Jeffrey Geuwoe.... Vowels.

Position: Centerback

Age: 20

Current Club: SC Heerenveen

Current Contract: Ends June 2012

Gouweleeuw is young, he's quick, has confidence on and off the ball, and appears solid in defense. Seems a perfect combination for a Bolton Wanderers side lacking in quite literally all of those things. One of our Twitter followers noted that Vowels reminded him of "a Dutch Phil Jones" and we're very inclined to agree.

He made his full professional debut at the tail end of last season where he made six appearances for SC Heerenveen, playing all 540 minutes of those appearances. So far in the 2011/2012 season, he's made 13 appearances, playing 1123 minutes, scoring once, and notching three assists. Not too shabby for a center half.

His current contract situation is much like Gary Cahill's where it is set to run out at the end of the season. If Heerenven do not want him to leave for nothing at the end of the season, their options are to either offer him an improved deal for his signature or sell him in the winter at what would likely be a cut price.

Bolton have had scouts watch him already and a number of Dutch football fans and authorities have nothing bad to say about him. On top of the Phil Jones reference, he's also been likened to a Dutch version of Gerard Pique, albeit without the great positional awareness that the Spaniard is famous for.

If the price is right, this is a signing Bolton Wanderers should strongly consider.
