The Bolton defense, for once, had a mostly good game. The one goal allowed was a stroke of bad luck. Sam Ricketts, Gary Cahill, and Zat Knight all played well. Jussi Jaaskelainen had one of his best games of the season, making a few vital stops that included tipping a long range effort from Stephen Hunt onto the crossbar. Despite good performances from those four, only one can be our choice for Man of the Match. Today, the decider was the defensive performance of Gary Cahill.
The center back, who may have played last game for Bolton Wanderers, was successful on 12 out of 14 challenges, cleared the ball 14 times, won four free kicks, and misplaced only four passes in the Bolton defensive third.
