Cahill Included in England Squad

This man, definitely ready to represent his country
This man, definitely ready to represent his country

It feels a lot like I've already written this story. Mainly because I have, almost every other time he got the call up.Tonight Capello released his 25 man squad to face the Euro 2012 qualis against Bulgaria and Wales, and Cahill was the one Bolton man included (I know, I too am shocked Paul Robinson didn't make it). While I did just publish a story claiming he's over-hyped, which I stand by, at the same time England is not exactly swimming in high quality players at the moment. I would say Cahill is definitely better than Joleon Lescott, and there's a case to be made that he's better than Jagielka, two players who are consistently played before poor Gaz. Full squad after the jump

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, Robert Green, David Stockdale

Defenders: Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott

Midfielders: Stewart Downing, Gareth Barry, Adam Johnson, James Milner, Frank Lampard, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott

Forwards: Darren Bent, Andy Carroll, Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe.

Capello appears to be ushering in the youth with this one, and the youth happen to be from Manchester United in Chris Smalling, Tom Cleverly, and Phil Jones, who all played for the England U21s this summer. The inclusion of Jones probably kills any chance Cahill had of playing, as the young central defender has seriously impressed for United so far. At least the view from the bench is better than that from the stands.
