Coyle Swoops Chelsea Again, Gets Kakuta on Loan

Deadline day in January, Owen Coyle pulled off a surprise loan move for young (and then relatively unknown) Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge. I'll be honest when I say that I don't remember what my expectations of Danny were but we all know he ended up. It was Coyle's faith in the player and guidance as a manager that quickly vaulted Sturridge into a household name as he scored eight goals in 12 games for the Mighty Wanderers. 

Sturridge was far and away the best signing of the January transfer window last season and combined with Jack Wilshere's time at Bolton has proven that Coyle's expertise with young first team players is unmatched. While the David N'Gog deal was in the works, Coyle and Phil Gartside were hard at work behind the seasons to secure another young Chelsea forward on loan.

What came out of seemingly nowhere turned into genuine excitement for Bolton Wanderers fans as Sky Sports News revealed that the Trotters had made a deal with Chelsea to take young Gael Kakuta on loan for six months. Kakuta is a 20 year old, left footed,  attacking player who can both play up front and on the wing and is comfortable on the left side. The move aims to provide first team experience for Kakuta as well as cover for Martin Petrov on the left wing.

Kakuta has not had much of a chance to break into the Chelsea senior side where he has been since 2007. He got his first senior appearance in 2009 as a substitute and had six more in 2010/2011 for a total of seven Premier League appearances. A few cup appearances and lesser Champions League games here and there, he never had a chance to shine. For the second half of the 2010/2011 season, Kakuta went on loan to Fulham where he made a further seven appearances and scored just once.
