Bolton Wanderers 0-1 Levante UD: Lingering Concerns

Reo-Coker not putting a foot wrong

The preseason started and ended with a murmur. Just like the 1-0 loss to FC Tampa Bay right at the beginning, Bolton lost 1-0 to Levante UD at the Reebok. An uninteresting game that saw the only goal come from Iborra after he tapped in a Ruben free kick that banged off the crossbar. A couple Bolton players came close, namely Klasnic and (gasp) Muamba, but it simply wasn't enough.

Despite the loss, there were a few talking points. Bolton played a strong lineup from the start and one that we could possibly see next weekend. Jussi started the match in goal which should put to rest any talk of who will start the season wearing the number 1 (ahem, number 22 in this case) shirt. A back line of Steinsson, Knight, Cahill, and Robbo is par for the course while the new look midfield of Eagles, Pratley, Reo-Coker, and Petrov impressed. The front line of Klasnic and Davies... left a lot to be desired.

One has to wonder what Owen Coyle will do on opening day and where / how Mark Davies (or Mavies or Sparky) will fit into the proceedings. It's also clear that we need a striker or two and with Coyle giving up the reported hunt for David N'Gog, it's hard to see where those attackers will come from.

Still, roll on QPR and the new season!
