Jay Lynch Steps Into Andy Lonergan's Backup Role This Weekend

Bolton have just one fresh injury concern for this weekend's match and it's (shocker) another knee problem! This time for backup goalkeeper Andy Lonergan

Chris Brunskill

Apparently Lonergan, who has been second choice to Adam Bogdan (except for the League Cup loss at Crawley Town) has picked up a knee injury in training this week. As a result, he is the only Bolton Wanderers player outside of the usual suspects of Josh Vela, Stuart Holden, and David Wheater, that won't be available for selection at the weekend. As a result, Jay Lynch will sit on the bench in his stead. Lynch took this same role on five separate occasions last season, three in the Premier League and two in the League Cup.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's match, caretaker Manager Jimmy Phillips discussed Lonergan's knee problem:

"Unfortunately Andy has picked up a knee injury and we are still waiting to discover the full extent of it. He's one who won't be available for this weekend.

"Jay Lynch will be drafted into the squad and it is a good opportunity for him. He has previously been on the bench in the Premier League last season, so we know he will cope fine with that.

"Aside from Andy and our long-term injuries which have been well documented, we've got a clean bill of health.

"We are looking forward to welcoming back the five lads who have been away on international duty and working with them."
