Bolton Wanderers have been out-possessed, outshot, and outplayed for the whole of the first half. Peterborough maintained over 60% of the possession and were cruising comfortably until first half stoppage time. With three minutes left on the clock, Bolton managed to convert one well against the run of play.
Bolton had been awarded a corner kick with time running out. Jacob Butterfield put the ball into the box and Chris Eagles slammed it home into the back of the net. Unfortunately for Eagles, the whistle blew and after some confusion, it became clear that the referee was pointing to the penalty spot. Sam Ricketts had been brought down in the box during the corner routine and Bolton were awarded the penalty.
Prior to this chance, Bolton Wanderers had only converted one of their three attempts this season with Chris Eagles missing both of his chances. Keith Andrews stepped up and slotted it comfortably into the corner to give Bolton a goal back right before the halftime whistle blew.
Bolton will have to be careful this second half as they now have four players with yellow cards in this match with Keith Andrews, Sam Ricketts, Jacob Butterfield, and Kevin Davies all in the book.
