When Stuart Holden was injured, one of the biggest things that we knew Bolton Wanderers would miss was a midfield engine. Someone that could take control of the game and keep the team moving. Throughout the course of the Arsenal game, that man was Mark Davies. The midfielder played all 90 minutes and was an absolute tank in the midfield, completing passes and making stops when necessary.
Mavies, Sparky, Mark, whatever you want to call him, completed 27 of 29 attempted passes. More than half of these passes were in the attacking half and nearly half of those were drives into the attacking third. Mark Davies completed three interceptions, including an important one on the edge of the box as well as losing out on only one of the seven tackles he attempted.
Other strong candidates for man of the match included David Ngog who is quickly finding his stride as the loan striker in a revitalized Bolton Wanderers setup. Nigel Reo-Coker pushed the team and put in a brilliant 89 minutes while wearing the armband. David Wheater played well above his normal standards, including a vital goal-line stop that kept Bolton in the match.
We saw plenty of shouts on the Twitter for NRC to take it but who do you think should win Man of the Match?
