UPDATED - All To Do But It's In Our Hands

UPDATE: The weekend fixtures came and passed. Three out of the four results went in Bolton Wanderers favor as Wolves drew to Sunderland, Swansea wrecked Blackburn, and West Brom edged out QPR. Wigan played much better than an extremely poor/useless/whatever-awful-adjective-you-want Arsenal side and won 2-1 at the Emirates.

As things stand, Wigan are in 16th on 34 points, QPR in 17th on 31, Bolton in 18th on 29, Blackburn in 19th on 28, and Wolves dead last on 23. Bolton have two games in hand heading into the next round of fixtures.

The funny thing (read: not funny, painfully agonizing) about relying on other teams to get results that will help Bolton out is that often, they will let you down. Despite the fact that we won three "six-pointers" in a row against our relegation rivals, Bolton could not get away from the drop zone. At the start the day, Bolton were in 16th place but with only a point between us and the drop zone.

As things stand, Bolton sit in 18th place on 29 points. One point above Blackburn but two back of QPR and Wigan who are, for the moment, safe. Relax, Bolton fans, for this is not the end.

We took a look at the run-in to the end of the season last week and we had really hoped that at least the top six teams in the table would be able to get a few results in against those in the bottom of the table not named Bolton Wanderers.

Liverpool couldn't handle the likes of QPR and Wigan, losing to them, and requiring a last minute header from Andy Carroll to beat Blackburn. Chelsea (arguably) beat Wigan with the help of the referees right at the death. Manchester United forced Ali Al-Habsi into just one save as they lost to Wigan 1-0 at the DW.

We'll have to hope once again this weekend that the fixtures are in our favor. Queens Park Rangers take on West Bromwich Albion away, Wolverhampton plays Sunderland away, Blackburn travel to Swansea, and Wigan visit Arsenal. Bolton don't play this weekend thanks to the FA Cup Semi-Final but when all is said and done, we'll be sitting with two games in hand.

At the very worst, QPR and Wigan go five points clear. At the best, they sit just two up. Bolton's remaining fixtures feature some winnable ties. Swansea and Aston Villa are two games we absolutely have to get points from. We just have to hope that while the team is in Dubai, they learn to find the back of the net once again.
