As the Philadelphia Union ran riot on lower division Harrisburg City Islanders (5-2 in the 83rd minute at the time of writing) in their US Open quarterfinal match-up, a bit of news emerged from a source that will be of interest to Bolton Wanderers fans. Apparently, the Trotters are in talks with USL Pro (third division) side Harrisburg City for a friendly match sometime in mid July.

A report from May 25 (a month almost do the day) suggested that Bolton Wanderers would travel stateside to play teams in Philadelphia, North Carolina, and South Carolina prior to their busy domestic preseason schedule. Harrisburg is about two hours from Philadelphia but that may be what the report suggested. We'll provide more news as it breaks.

The Bolton News piece claims that the Trotters will make the trip over the atlantic to play in Philadelphia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The Philadelphia are has a number of sides in various divisions of American soccer including Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union.

There are a number of lower division teams in North Carolina as well. Bolton played NC's Charlotte Eagles and Charleston Battery in the summer of 2010. The North American Soccer League's Carolina RailHawks also take residence there.
