Marvin Sordell was not given much of a chance at Bolton Wanderers in his first six months with the team. The young forward was often left on the bench as Owen Coyle chose to go with the experience of Kevin Davies and hold-up play of David Ngog as Bolton tried to stave off relegation. Coyle's experiment failed and Bolton were relegated.
Despite being a heavily unknown quantity in the Premier League, many argue that he should have been given the chance to save Bolton, especially after performing well late in the final match against Stoke City. Sordell has a point to prove and he will try to do so in the Olympic games this summer.
Sordell is the surprise inclusion in the squad but has a good history with manager Stuart Pearce at the England U-21 level. Other names on the squad are Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy, Micah Richards, Daniel Sturridge, Josh McEachran, Ryan Bertrand, Tom Cleverley, Joe Allen, Aaron and Jack Butland among others. The Great Britain squad is young and exciting and we hope that Sordell adds a bit of flair to the side.
Sordell had previously made seven appearances for the England U-21s with two goals to his name (including an absolute stunner against Israel).
