We speculated (and hoped) that Bolton would once again make a United States preseason trip but it was not to be as Bolton Wanderers revealed who their final three opponents of an already busy preseason would be. Earlier reports suggested that Wanderers would play games in Philadelphia, South Carolina, and North Carolina while a source later informed us that Harrisburg City Islanders (just two hours from Philadelphia) might be on the cards.

Instead, Bolton will play Ayr United FC, Hamilton AFC, and Falkirk FC, all of Scotland. The club officially said that they could not find suitable stateside opponents which would have been difficult as Bolton Wanderers no longer carry the Premier League name that draws fans. Newer rumors stated that Houston Dynamo and Red Bull New York could have elected to bring Bolton in as well.
