Reports this morning out of the Bolton News and Young Guns Blog have said that Arsenal will allow young Benik Afobe to join the Trotters on loan with the deal hopefully done by the weekend. According to the reports, the Gunners accepted loan deals from both Millwall and Bolton wanderers and allowing Afobe to choose between the two with him picking the latter. Apparently what made the deal possible was the playing time that Bolton promised.
Afobe has been touted as strong and hard-working with a tall frame. At six feet tall, he certainly isn't a lightweight. Part of the reputation that he has built up is due to his goalscoring record for Arsenal's reserve setup. Afobe was tipped to be a big start early on but a groin injury has seen his progress momentarily halt. Benik Afobe spent the majority of 2010/11 on loan with Huddersfield Town, helping them reach the playoff final at Old Trafford where they ultimately lost 3-0 to Peterborough United. He scored five goals in 28 appearances for the Terriers.
Owen Coyle will gladly welcome another body into his finishing school, hoping that he'll start a fire under David Ngog and Marvin Sordell.
