Reserve match off: Wheater will have to wait

David Wheater's first major step in a bid to return to full fitness has been postponed. Bolton Wanderers were scheduled to play a U21 Premier League match against Newcastle United but now, that game has been called off due to weather.

The match was scheduled to take place at the County Ground in Leyland (where Bolton beat Oldham Athletic just a few weeks back) but conditions overnight and during the day today are quickly turning what was going to be a match into a health & safety nightmare. Much of England received heavy snowfall overnight, thus ruling out the possibility of the game going forward.

The news will come as a blow to David Wheater who was all set to make an appearance in the match on his road to recovery from a cruciate ligament injury suffered last May. There was also talk that Stuart Holden would see some time in order to boost his fitness ahead of Everton at the weekend.

Bolton's next U21 fixture is a week from today, away at Stoke City.
