Officially official: Jan Gregus signs on loan, option for permanent move

Dougie is getting some business done early. We're not even a third of the way through the January Window and the manager has brought three new names to the club. The third man in is one that we've spent some time telling you about before. He is Jan Gregus, a 21-year-old central Slovakian midfielder from Czech Gambrinus liga club Banik Ostrava.

Jan Gregus has signed with Bolton Wanderes on a year-long loan, at which point Bolton will have the option to release him or sign him. According to Transfermarkt, his contract with Banik Ostrava is out at the end of the season.

He often plays in a more defensive role ahead of the defense but is capable of playing dead center as well. Gregus has 65 appearances and one goal for Banik Ostrava since joining the club in 2009. Jan is by no means a fixture for Banik Ostrava as he's just had 6 appearances and one assist for them. The club's official site refers to him as a reserve player. That said, he's still very young.

He also has 19 caps and 2 goals for Slovakia U21s.

Interestingly, Gregus spent part of last winter on trial with Watford. Manager Sean Dyche (now at Burnley) said that the midfielder "fitted in nicely and had a good week" (per the Watford Observer). Watford elected not to sign Gregus though and he went back to the Czech Republic.

For those of you that don't remember, Bolton have a bit of a (poor) history with Slovakia U21 players. Some of you may recall the likes of Lubomir Michalik (currently with Portsmouth) and Zoltan Harsanyi, both of whom were brought to the club by Sammy Lee, and Vladimir Weiss (on loan from Manchester City) brought in by Owen Coyle. I say "some of you may remember" because those three players never really did much for Bolton.
