It's been a fast and furious end to the transfer window for the Bolton Wanderers. Rumours of a move for Cian Bolger to the Reebok only surfaced on Tuesday, and two days later the defender is signed, sealed, and delivered from Leicester City. Bolger signs on for three-and-a-half years.
Cian himself has confirmed the move for us, tweeting,
Delighted to have signed for #BWFC

Bolger is a product of the Leicester City academy, and was awarded the Academy Player of the Year in 2009. While the 20 year-old is most comfortable at centreback, he has also played at leftback this season for the Bristol Rovers, where he has been on loan for an aggregate of 2 seasons now, starting in January of 2011. When he first moved to the Memorial Stadium he said of himself, "I am a tough tackler and good at passing the ball, and have scored a few for the youth team at Leicester."
He did a decent job for the Gas, as they attempted to sign him permanently this transfer window but were unable to offer attractive terms for Leicester. Almost all of Bolger's experience is in League Two, but the Irishman is young enough that he could still be a good prospect for the Whites. Given the way the defense has been working recently, Dougie Freedman has specified that Bolger would be an addition to the development rather than the first team (as we found out on the BN live blog).
Welcome to t'Reebok Bolger! Now, time to think of a grain-based nickname....
