Bolton all set to tie up Craig Davies bargain deal (with goal highlights)

£300,000. That is what Barnsley striker Craig Davies is rated at and that's the amount that Bolton Wanderers are set to pay for Dougie Freedman's first permanent signing. The club is set to talk with Davies on Friday morning as the price they are willing to pay will trigger the buy-out clause in Davies' contract.

According to the Bolton News a few teams were interested in acquiring Davies' services with the other suitors being Leicester City and Leeds United. Barnsley attempted to offer the forward a two-year extension just a few weeks ago as his current deal at Oakwell runs out in the summer. Dougie Freedman would be unwise to wait for the current contract to expire though as the other sharks in the water are looking to bite. The Daily Mail is reporting that the deal is done and that "Dougie Freedman is signing Barnsley striker Craig Davies in a £300,000 deal."

So far this season, Craig Davies has scored a total of nine times in all competitions for Barnsley, with eight of those coming in the league. He has appeared in 20 of 26 Championship matches this season, starting all but one of those. His highlight of the season thus far came against Birmingham where he scored four goals in a 5-1 drubbing of the blues. Bolton fans will remember his long-range strike that equalized for Barnsley when the Tykes visited the Reebok Stadium in November.

The nice thing about Craig Davies is that he's capable of scoring more than one type of goal, meaning that he is very willing to hit it from outside the box or to crash in on a rebound and tap it home. His signing will put pressure on the current attacking corps while providing a man that can (hopefully) take his chances in front of goal.

Prior to signing for Barnsley in 2011, Craig Davies played for Chesterfield in League Two, making 43 appearances and scoring 25 goals in all competitions. Have a watch of the video below, it's seven-and-a-half minutes of every single goal he scored that season (music language may be not safe for work).

Davies also has six appearances for the Welsh national team. He is yet to score for the national team although he has provided goals at the youth level. Davies is set to turn 27 on January 9.
