Banik Ostrava confirm Bolton negotiations for Slovakian mid

Last week, we told you about Bolton Wanderers having, and being impressed with, a 21-year-old Slovakian midfielder. Today, his club have confirmed, through an official, that Bolton are in fact in talks after the young midfielder did well at a Bolton training stint/trial.

The player in question is Jan Gregus. He is a U21 Slovakia international with 19 caps and 2 goals to his name at that level. He currently plays for FC Banik Ostrava in the Czech Gambrinus liga. He is under contract at the moment but the deal is set to expire in June.

Speaking to isport.blesk.cz (by way of Sky Sports), a daily tabloid in the Czech Republic, club official Michal Dryml discussed the situation around Gregus:

"I can confirm that we have indeed been in negotiations with Bolton.

"At the moment we are discussing the possibility of a loan with the option of a permanent move.

"It is not that we would announce tomorrow that Jan is leaving tomorrow, but it is very likely that he will be playing in England in the spring.

"Gregus is a very talented young player but he was not getting many opportunities in the autumn part of season, so we are not going to stay in his path. England is England."

A loan move with a view to a permanent signing is a very smart option for Dougie Freedman (should it go to the end of the season) as it would see Gregus out of contract at Banik Ostrava and thus would mean no transfer fee.
