West Brom not ready to sell Craig Dawson... yet

Paul Gilham

Bolton Wanderers are still on the hunt for a brand new defender to bolster the back the four. West Bromwich Albion and England U21 defender Craig Dawson is at the top of Dougie Freedman's list. West Brom are not quite ready to sell just yet.

Much like Bolton, the Baggies have had injury issues of late. Their sick bed roster looks something like this: Claudio Yacob, Goran Popov, Jonas Olsson, Steven Reid, Zoltan Gera, and Marc-Antoine Fortune are all out with injuries. These players have forced West Brom manager Steve Clarke to keep hold of Craig Dawson for now. The trio of Reid, Popov, and Olsson are all defenders and that is what is keeping the Dawson move from happening.

Speaking about the situation, manager Steve Clarke said:

"Craig would benefit from playing games and we've discussed him going out on a few occasions this season.

"But I have three defenders injured so there's no way Craig can leave us just now."

Dawson has yet to play in the Premier League this season, having made the bench nine times but not getting any minutes. He has played sparingly in the Capital One Cup and saw three minutes of action in last weekend's FA Cup match against Queens Park Rangers.

There are a number of other teams looking at Dawson with rumors being that Crystal Palace would like him on loan.

Steve Clarke wants to ensure Jonas Olsson's fitness before letting Dawson leave.
