Highlights of Birmingham City 1-2 Bolton Wanderers

Matthew Lewis

It's happened. Bolton Wanderers have their first win of the season finally. It took 11 matches but when that final whistle blew at St. Andrew's, a huge weight had been lifted off the whole of Bolton's fanbase with the Trotters simultaneously lifted out of the drop zone. If you were not at St. Andrew's or did not watch the match on TV, these are the highlights for you.

Bolton's strikers are finally off the mark following Jermaine Beckford's first league goal in a Wanderers kit. A long ball out of the back saw the BIrmingham City defender misjudge it, allowing the striker to run in using his pace. With the goalkeeper rushing toward it, Beckford poked the ball home from the inside edge of the penalty area.

The striker nearly added a second later on with Liam Feeney's cross finding the head of Jermaine Beckford. Unfortnately for him and Bolton Wanderers, the header crashed off the crossbar an Bolton maintained their 1-0 lead. With it becoming clear that Bolton needed a second, the answer came. It was another cross in and this time, the goalkeeper misjudged it. Luckily, Neil Danns was on hand to head home from point-blank range.

Birmingham City would pull one back through Nikola Zigic from a corner kick. The ball in was met by the head of the tall forward and looped over Adam Bogdan, into the back of the net at the far post.

The Trotters would hold out though, grabbing their first win of the season.
