Following on from Saturday's thumping 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, it was with a sense of optimism that Bolton fans turned on ITV to watch Teddy Sheringham and a Gareth Bale impersonator draw the balls out of the hat/tub for the Third Round of the FA Cup - traditionally the time when the big boys come into the tournament.
Personally I was hoping for a Preston North End away day, what with me being based in Preston not to mention the prospect of a reunion with our former striker and captain Kevin Davies.
Otherwise I would have been content with a nice and easy away game, someone like Manchester United.
However it was not to be - and we drew near neighbours Blackpool. We have faced the Seasiders six times over the years in the cup:
30.10.1886 - Bolton Wanderers 5 v 3 South Shore (Hewitson, Struthers, Howarth & Davenport 2)
15.02.1896 - Blackpool 0 v 2 Bolton Wanderers (Cassidy, Wright)
03.02.1912 - Bolton Wanderers 1 v 0 Blackpool (Bentley)
08.01.1927 - Bolton Wanderers 3 v 1 Blackpool (Smith x3)
02.05.1953 - FA Cup Final - Bolton Wanderers 3 v 4 Blackpool (Moir, Bell, Lofthouse)
05.01.1957 - Bolton Wanderers 2 v 3 Blackpool (Henin, Gubbins)
The tie is due to be played on 4th or 5th January 2014 at the Reebok Stadium.
