Former Bolton Wanderers left back Marcos Alonso is rumoured to be on the brink of joining struggling Premier League side Sunderland.
Alonso left the Reebok Stadium at the end of last season under freedom of contract as he signed a three year contract with Serie A giants Fiorentina in a move which surprised many at Bolton. His stay at the club only yielded 35 appearances in three season.
It was rumoured at the time that Alonso was offered terms which doubled his already considerable Bolton salary though he has found the step up in class to be tough, appearing only twice for Fiorentina who are currently managed by ex-Roma and Fulham man Vincenzo Montella.
It is being reported that he will join Sunderland on loan with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season. Sunderland, despite an encouraging win over Everton on Boxing Day, find themselves bottom of the Premier League and struggling for points.
However, we all know that this doesn't really matter because they get big crowds or something.
