Extended highlights from Bolton Wanderers 2-1 Burnley: Trotters comeback is twice as nice

Charlie Crowhurst

For almost all of the first half and a good portion of the second, it looked like much of the same from Bolton Wanderers. A pair of inspired substitutions, a sense of urgency, and two quality goals were the story of the day for the Trotters though as they came back from a goal down to win all three points at the Reebok.

The scoring opened in the 55th minute after Junior Stanislas' corner was headed across the face of goal by Chris McCann. Between the defense switching off for a split second, Darren Pratley backpedaling, and a lofted ball out of the reach of Adam Bogdan, the ball fell kindly on the head of David Edgar. Bogdan scurried across his goal line and made his body as large as possible but the headed ball sneaked in at the near post.

Bolton's equalizer came through substitute Craig Davies not long after his introduction. Chung-Yong Lee took possession of the ball on the left wing and put a perfect ball into the box. Craig Davies met it with his head near the center of the area with a brilliant diving effort. His header hit the underside of the crossbar and went into the back of the net. Chris Eagles was tracking the effort and surely would have had the rebound had it not taken the bounce it did.

The winner came from the other substitute, David Ngog, not too long after the equalizer. Chris Eagles won a free kick on his right flank some distance from goal and Jay Spearing stood over it. The midfielder put the ball into the box and onto the head of Kevin Davies' whose header was initial blocked but some tenacity saw him play a great ball to Jay Spearing some 25 yards from goal. Spearing mis-hit his shot attempt but David Ngog's lightning reflexes saw him hit the ball on the bounce with pace and into the back of Lee Grant's net.
