Bolton Wanderers fans were fired up at the start of the match. They were really up for it at the first whistle but they would go home wondering what had happened at the last. Bolton went up early but were left reeling after a pair of Watford goals. It could have been very different at the end of the day but Watford escaped with only a little bit of paint chipped off their crossbar.
Sam Ricketts got the scoring going after he was brought down in the box by Daniel Pudil. Marvin Sordell stepped up to the spot against the fans that used to cheer him on and put the ball into the back of the net with Manuel Almunia diving the wrong way. The goal was Sordell's fifth in five appearances and third game in a row with a goal.
The lead didn't last long though as Watford came charging forward. A long ball played to Matej Vydra could have seen Tim Ream take a step forward and clear it but a bad mistake from the central defender let it run kindly to the man on loan from Udinese. Vydra took Adam Bogdan on one-on-one and did well to finish at the near post for his 19th league goal and 23rd in all competitions.
The Trotters would respond but could not finish with a goal. Marvin Sordell was very much the danger man again as Chung-Yong Lee burst in from the left and found the forward in space. Sordell hit it and the ball smacked where the post meets the crossbar.
Watford would push forward once more and it was Matej Vydra doing the work once more. With four Bolton defenders closing in on him, Vydra threaded the needle and found Almen Abdi in the box. Abdi's shot rolled through two Bolton and two Watford bodies and past a very unsighted Adam Bogdan, into the back of the net.
