Julian Darby started his career with the Trotters. He made 270 appearances over seven seasons for Bolton Wanderers as a midfielder and scoring 36 goals in the process. He had been with Bolton in a coaching capacity from 2012 on, working with the academy. After Owen Coyle was sacked, Jimmy Phillips decided to get the old band back together and hired Darby to work with him and Sammy Lee as caretakers of the club. Following Dougie Freedman's hiring, Darby again returned to coaching the academy.
In the wake of Nottingham Forest hiring Billy Davies, Julian Darby has been snapped up after leaving Bolton Wanderers a number of weeks ago. Darby worked alongside Davies when he was the manager of Derby County and again when Davies first moved to Forest, from 2009-2011. He has been handed a promotion with his new old club, and will work with the first team as a coach.
Under the short management tenure of the Phillips/Lee/Darby trio, Bolton picked up one win, one draw, and one loss. We wish Darby the best of luck (except for when Bolton visit Forest).
