Cardiff City to use Bolton clash to blood new talent

Harry Engels

Cardiff City already have their cake. They have secured promotion and the league title. In short, the really have nothing to play for. What they really want is to have their cake and eat it too. That's what they will look to do when Bolton Wanderers visit this weekend as they build up their championship celebration.

The Red Dragons are now able to look to the future without worry and have the opportunity to give new talent a chance to prove themselves. While the match day squads have not yet been announced, Cardiff's manager, Malky Mackay, did reveal one member. The champions have a trio of forwards dealing with injury issues and as a result will be without Heidar Helguson, Nicky Maynard, and Frazier Campbell for the season's penultimate game.

Speaking to Wales Online ahead of the clash, Mackay said:

"We will welcome Etien [Velikonja] into the squad for the Bolton game.

"With our injury list growing this week we find ourselves short of options in attack."

Etien Velikonja, 24, moved to Cardiff City from Maribor in the summer of 2012 but chances for him have been few and far between. So far this season, Velikonja has played just twice in the league for Cardiff, with those two appearances totaling just 30 minutes. He also played in an FA Cup match in January.
