Kevin Davies granted testimonial by Football League

Stu Forster

After much back and forth between Bolton Wanderers, the fans, and the media, Kevin Davies has finally been granted a testimonial. A report out of the Bolton News confirms as much, saying that the Football League has granted Super Kev his testimonial. The Bolton legend will now have to form a committee to plan the event including the actual match which should be held at the Reebok Stadium.

Kevin Davies was a long-time staple of the Bolton Wanderers team, having signed for the Trotters over a decade ago. In mid-March, Davies was told that his Bolton Wanderers deal would not be extended for another year and the legend was free to find a new team in the summer. The timing of the announcement left a few days in the loan transfer window for Davo to move ahead of his contract expiring in hopes of finding a permanent deal. Despite interest, nothing transpired and Davies would spend the season's final eight matches either sitting on the bench or out of the team entirely. The announcement's timing also brought with it some manufactured controversy by outlets that shall not be named but thankfully that has died down.

There is no time frame for the testimonial match yet but this is a big step in getting the event underway. Ricardo Gardner was also granted a testimonial under similar circumstances. Nothing has transpired with his as yet.
