Holden to feature at Showdown in Chinatown

USA TODAY Sports

For the second year running, Stu Holden will take part in NBA star, minority Vancouver Whitecaps owner, and well known soccer/football fan Steve Nash's annual small-sided charity match: the Showdown in Chinatown. This year's match will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, the 26th of June, at Sarah D. Roosevelt Park in New York City.

The rosters for the game are never released before the actual event but that's half the fun. Occasionally, little details are leaked by some of the players themselves, and that's how we know that Holden is participating. In past years, the stars have included a mix of NBA players, football stars, and others (some of which make a $25,000 donation to the charity to partake). Last year's squads were as follows:

Team World:

Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns)
Simone Sandri (NBA TV)
Giuseppe Rossi (Villareal)
Salomon Kalou (Chelsea)
Charly Ludi (Novara)
Emmerson Boyce (Wigan Athletic)
Elton Brand (Philadelphia 76ers)
Alessandro Noselli (Sassuolo)
Enrico Zanus

Team USA:

Robbie Rogers (then-Leeds United, now LA Galaxy)
Marc Stein (ESPN.com)
Maurice Edu (then-Rangers, now Stoke City)
Stuart Holden (Bolton Wanderers)
Jimmy Conrad (Retired)
Danny Green (San Antonio Spurs)
Mike Dunleavy, Jr. (Milwaukee Bucks)
Mehdi Ballouchy (New York Red Bulls)

Past participants have included Thierry Henry, Claudio Reyna, Tony Parker, Adrian Mutu, Baron Davies, Javier Zanetti, Ryan Babel, Demba Ba, Emmerson Boyce, and Patrick Vieira, among others. We'll have highlights up after the match tomorrow. If you happen to be in NYC and want to check out the match, which kicks off at 6:30 PM, be sure to get there really early. Seating is limited and the event is obviously a popular one.
