14 for Moritz: new man has big shirt to fill

Alex Livesey

Ahead of Bolton Wanderers' 1-1 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend, the club made a small announcement on Twitter that passed many fans by. New signing Andre Moritz was on the bench for the draw and was handed a shirt that arguably not too many expected to see filled so soon.

The number 14 shirt was of course worn by Kevin Davies for (just under) a decade at Bolton Wanderers, from 2003 to 2013, when he was released by the club at the conclusion of his contract. For many fans, that number will likely remain synonymous with Super Kev's time at Bolton Wanderers.

Moriz was on the bench for Bolton against Burnley with Dougie Freedman not electing to use him as a substitute late in the match with Wanderers searching for a winner. There are still a wide array of number options available with 3, 6, 13, 17, 18, 26, 37, 43 still available. What isn't clear quite yet is if the 14 shirt has been handed to Moritz permanently or if it was just a one-off thing for the Burnley match. Fans will remember that earlier this summer, Jermaine Beckford was briefly handed the number 17 shirt before permanently taking number 10.

Prior to the game, the manager discussed Moritz' fitness, saying that it was not up to par just yet.
