Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman's obsession with strikers who don't like scoring goals continues apace, with the latest internet tittle-tattle reporting that he is on the brink of sending former Barnsley striker Craig Davies out on loan to an as-yet-unnamed Championship club in order to re-sign Cardiff City forward Joe Mason, again on loan.
Davies has only just found himself back in the Bolton side following injuries to his other senior forwards, but has previously been mentioned as a potential outgoing member of an already thin squad.
Vague hints have been dropped by journalists about a convoluted 'exchange' deal that would see Davies leave the Reebok, with a left-back coming into the squad from the team who would take Davies on loan.
Very complex.
Joe Mason played eight times for Bolton this season, and failed to trouble the scorekeepers.
I know he was involved in one goal, on his debut, but I'm in a grumpy mood and am going to put that down as an own goal, which it bloody well was. His impact upon the club was minimal, but Dougie appears to have a fondness for him. Must be the baby-blue eyes.
No news on the details just yet, but we will update you when we know.
Let's hope The Oracle is wrong.
