Globe Trotters: International Round Up

Dan takes a look at how our international players fared this past International Break

Chung Sung-Jun

Chung-yong Lee -

After an improved, but still largely anonymous start to the season, Chungy, looked brilliant in South Korea's friendly against Paraguay, a game in which he played a massive part in the 2-0 win. He showed pace, strength, skill, spacial awareness and maybe most promisingly a cutting edge as he assisted the first goal and tricked a defender into falling on his arse for the second. You can see his highlights of the game here, if only he could do this for Bolton, eh?

South Korea went on to play a second friendly on Tuesday, Lee played 90 minutes in a 3-1 defeat to World Cup heroes Costa Rica, with Celso Borges grabbing a brace either side of Lee Dong-gook's equaliser, before Oscar Duarte headed home the third.

Tim Ream -

Ream came on as a second half substitute, in what was Landon Donavon's last ever international outing. The USA were on course for 1-0 win, through Mixu Diskerud's early strike. But West Ham United striker, Enner Valencia, spoiled the fun with a late strike, that did seem as if it had taken a big deflection of poor Tim, but in actual fact, Valencia, hit the ball such a way with the outside of his boot that the swerve on the ball is what wrong footed Brad Guzan. What makes it even more of a shame is that Ream had performed some heroic defending just moments prior, as he did well to block a powerful shot.

The USA went on to play their second friendly, this time against Honduras. They again went a head early, this time through Jozy Altidore and they again conceded late into the game, the equaliser being scored by Maynor Figueroa. In yet another similarity, Ream came on to play the final 25 minutes.

Medo Kamara -

Medo played as Sierra Leone earned their first point in their African Cup of Nations Qualifying campaign, with a well fought 0-0 draw with Cameroon.

Unfortunately, Sierra Leone then went on to lose 2-0 to Cameroon, as they met them again a few days later. This result leaves Medo's nation a full nine points off top spot, and five points adrift of second, which makes fairly likely Sierra Leone will not be qualifying for the African Cup of Nations.

Chris Herd -

The Aston Villa loanee who has impressed with his performances in a White shirt thus far, missed out on Australia's friendly with UAE, due to an Achilles injury.

Herd did however manage to recover in time to start in Australia's second friendly of the break, playing 64 minutes as his country slipped to a shock 1-0 defeat to 2022 World Cup hosts, Qatar.

Conor Wilkinson -

Despite initially being called up to the Republic of Ireland U21 squad, young striker Conor Wilkinson wasn't even on the bench, as his country were easily dispatched 4-1, by a ruthless Norway side.

Wilkinson, did however, score his first ever professional league goal in his last game on loan at Oldham Athletic: a deflected effort fell into his path and he obliged to fire it home from ten yards out.
