As is often the case Bolton Wanderers got themselves some "new manager bounce" this afternoon with a hard fought 1-0 win at Birmingham City to move off the bottom of the Championship.
The rigid play of the Dougie Freedman era was forgotten as Bolton attempted the previously alien concept of taking the game to their opponents.
The new regime seemed to bring the best out of some of the players no doubt keen to impress their new boss.
However we are still absolutely toss at taking penalties.
Selecting a MOTM is fairly difficult for a change as it was a real team performance needed to see off Birmingham and claim the three points.
Anyway here are some candidates:
Chung Yong Lee
Never been quite the same player since his horror injury at Newport but seemed to revel given more freedom in Lennon's system. He should have fond memories of St Andrews after his winning goal in the cup quarter final and certainly seemed to enjoy himself this afternoon.
Matt Mills
The match winner, Paul Robinson is not noted for his heading ability and Mills brushed him aside to power home. Its often the goal scorer's who get these plaudits however Mills defensive play was solid enough to help Bolton keep a rare clean sheet.
Andy Lonergan
Was on form when Birmingham did get sight of goal and made some eye catching saves. A solid mistake free afternoon from Lonergan.
Neil Lennon
Lennon has lifted the mood around the club this week and he has had an instant impact. His passions spilled over late in the game resulting in his sending off but this can't be a bad thing considering the malaise under the previous manager.
Charlton Athletic see you Tuesday night.
