BRENTFORD: Jay Spearing to Make 100th Appearance

Wanderers captain Spearing prepares for landmark occasion at home to Brentford tomorrow

Paul Thomas

Bolton Wanderers face Brentford at the Macron Stadium tomorrow at 3pm. Not a particularly exciting prospect I'm sure lots will agree.

However, for captain and former Liverpool and Leicester City midfielder Jay Spearing the occasion will mark his 100th appearance for Wanderers.

Spearing, a month shy of his 26th birthday, joined Wanderers on a season-long loan under former manager Owen Coyle in 2012, signing a permanent deal under Dougie Freedman the following summer.

Saturday will therefore represent the third different manager under which Spearing has led out a Bolton Wanderers side. He must be quite the jinx.

Showing signs of good form lately, Spearing has struggled for form since his initial loan spell that saw him sweep the board at the club's end-of-season Player of the Year award ceremonies. New Whites boss Neil Lennon has kept Spearing as captain since his arrival and this is unlikely to change tomorrow.

The fans are expecting a win against Brentford and will be hoping that the captain can contribute to this in what will no doubt be a proud day for him and his family. Let's hope there are many more to come.
