GOSSIP: Marc Tierney Forced to Retire from Football?

Rumours abound - but what's the scuttle?

It has been rumoured this week that Bolton Wanderers full back and injury victim Marc Tierney is set to announce his retirement from professional football.

Tierney, 29, joined Wanderers in 2013 and has only made eight first team appearances, the last of which came in a Championship fixture in September of the same year.

In that game, Tierney suffered a broken ankle following a bad challenge, and has yet to reappear since.

The Prestwich born left back is a late-bloomer, having made just 250 appearances for previous clubs including the likes of Norwich City, Oldham Athletic and Colchester United.

Sad news for the lad if true. There has been no official confirmation from Wanderers at this time, with the only source being 'ITK' forummers on a reputable fan website not a million miles from here.

Let's hope that he manages to find a way back into professional football and that the prognosis is more positive than currently rumoured.
