Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you are sitting down. The Bolton News is reporting, along with several other media outlets, that Emile Heskey is training with Bolton Wanderers. The former England international is 37 years old, was released by the Newcastlle Jets of the Australian Football League, and is even older than Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Bolton currently have three players in their squad that you would consider "senior strikers." They are Craig Davies, Max Clayton, and Joe Mason. Mason is on loan from Cardiff City, and Manager Neil Lennon does not appear to rate him very highly. Youngster Conor Wilkinson has just signed a new deal, but is yet to make an impact on the first team. There are a couple other former Academy players under contract, such as Zach Clough and Georg Iliev, but they are unlikely to see much time in the Championship this season.
All that means that Bolton need some help at the forward position. We know Jermaine Beckford is not getting recalled from Preston North End. Rumors have been swirling the last few days that Gudjohnsen will sign. And now Heskey is with the team. I don't think he can help, but it doesn't hurt to have a look.
