BWFC Flop Elmander Rejoins Brondby on a free transfer

Probably playing at his level

Laurence Griffiths

Bolton Wanderers flop Johan Elmander today rejoined former club Brondby today on a free transfer following the expiration of his Galatasaray contract.

Elmander, who surprised nobody by failing to score a single goal last season whilst on loan to relegated Norwich City in the Premier League played 56 games for the Danish club in the years between 2004-06, scoring 22 goals in the process. Coincidentally, that is more goals than he ever scored for us in almost 50% more games. My word.

Elmander was of course brought to Bolton by He Who Shall Not Be Named in 2008 for £8.25m, ostensibly to replace Frenchman Nicolas Anelka who was sold to Chelsea for £15m the previous January. Elmander was a spectacular failure at the club both under HWSNBN and his successor Owen Coyle.

In total, Elmander made ninety two appearances in the Premier League, scoring eighteen goals, eleven appearances in the FA Cup, scoring three goals, and five appearances in the League Cup, scoring once before leaving to join Turkish giants Galatasaray on a free contract upon the expiry of his Bolton deal. He went on to score just 17 goals in 59 games.
