Bolton Wanderers open their preseason schedule in Brondby Stadion versus Brondby IF. Dougie Freedman has just about a full squad to choose from. Even the notoriously brittle Joe Riley has joined up with the lads in Scandinavia.
While it is doubtful that today's squad selection will give us many clues as to what Freedman's plans are for the season itself, it is still fun to speculate. So here we go:
Andy Lonergan is in goal for the Wanderers. And he will be station behind an entirely revamped back four. Oscar Threlkeld is at right back. New signing Dean Moxey is at left back. Cian Bolger is in the middle, partnered by Matt Mills. Dorian Dervite, Tim Ream, Alex Baptiste, and Joe Riley are all on the sub's bench.
The midfield does not have quite as many new faces. Medo Kamara and Josh Vela will play from the start. Liam Feeney and (presumably) Mark Davies will be wide. Jay Spearing, Rob Hall, Neil Danns, and Darren Pratley are on the bench.
Jermaine Beckford starts up top, with George Illiev alongside/behind, in front of him. The only striker son the bench are Craig Davies and "Trialist." Johan Elmander starts for the home side.
Any thoughts? Opinions? Concerns? To be honest, it looks a decent set of players to me. This season will be all about minimizing the defensive mistakes.
