We covered the question of whether Alex Baptiste had a future at the Macron Stadium the other day, so we don't need to get into too much detail. I wrote that I had mixed feelings about letting Baptiste go, and judging by poll results, the rest of the support feels the same. The news was announced by Bolton Wanderers on Twitter just a few moments ago:
OfficialBWFC TRANSFER NEWS: Alex Baptiste has joined @OneRovers on a season-long loan. #BWFC http://t.co/XQy9o4N0Wu 7/11/14, 12:30 PM |
This move can mean one of two things. The first option: Another defender is being signed and Dougie Freedman needed to clear Baptiste's wages from the books. The second option: Freedman has decided to give the youngsters a chance. Some combination of Hayden White, Oscar Threlkeld, and Joe Riley will be manning the right back spot for us this season.
I have to admit, I am pulling for option number two. I would love to see the youngsters given a chance.
The loan move is for the full season. Baptiste will not be eligible to play against Wanderers. He also has two years left on his contract, so could theoretically return to the club next season.
