Match Preview: Watford v Bolton Wanderers

The rollercoaster is all set up, we're climbing up the hill

So here we are. All this waiting, all the bullshit transfer ITK nonsense matters fer nowt.

THE FOOTBALL SEASON IS BACK, BABY!

Dougie Freedman and his Bolton Wanderers side travel darn sarf to face Watford, managed by Italian Giuseppe Sannino. 'Beppe' was confirmed as new head coach of Watford in December 2013, taking over from compatriot and former Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola.

He has overseen a solid, if unspectacular pre-season, one which has seen Watford travel abroad, playing three matches in Bad Bleiberg, Austria, winning once, 7-0 against local side Feldkirchen.

The biggest victory of the pre-season, however, is keeping hold of star striker Troy Deeney, who was the subject of much transfer speculation linking him with a big money move to the Premier League.

Recently promoted Leicester City and Burnley have made offers supposedly in the region of £7.5m for the striker, but the financial backing of the club by the Italian based Pozzo family has allowed Santino to reject the offers and keep Deeney within the fold.

The 26-year-old scored twenty-five goals in all competitions for the Hornets last season and will be a crucial member of their squad going into the 2014/15 Championship season.

The club have used the loan market to their advantage too, with the re-signing of Vydra a particular boost to their fortunes. He scored 20 league goals for the club in a previous spell. Of course we all know about Keith Andrews, and wish him luck whilst at the club.

Notable outgoings include former Arsenal liability/goalkeeper Almunia, former Blackburn captain Lucas Neill and former Liverpool winger Albert Riera, and the club look to reduce the average age of their squad.
