Bolton Wanderers Take Northern Irish Striker on Trial

Some eagle-eyed Bolton Wanderers supporters may have noticed that in the recently released team training video, from the excellent BWFC Youtube channel, that there were a couple of unfamiliar faces in the group. Well, the first one has been revealed thanks to a Facebook post from Warrenpoint Town FC's official page, informing us that their top goal scorer, Daniel Hughes, has been given a four day trial by the club.

Warrenpoint Town are a semi-professional team who play in the NIFL Premiership, in Northern Ireland. They got promoted to the Premiership in the 2012/13 season, thanks to the help of Hughes and he's been an ever present figure in the side since. Hughes himself is 22 years old, stands at 6ft tall and has scored 12 goals this season, with 11 coming in the league.

Opinions of Hughes seem to be high, as praise and wishes of luck could be found under said post, with manager and club director, Barry Gray saying:

"It's a fantastic achievement for Daniel to attract the interest of such an established professional club, however it's important at this stage to outline that it's just step one of what can be a long process."

At this stage it's just a trial but I'm confident that Daniel can make a lasting impression next week and we will do all we can to support him in this."

Bolton apparently expressed their interest in Hughes after a review of Warrenpoint's games across the current season.

Gray added:

"This is also a fantastic demonstration of local talent and football. I look forward to accompanying Daniel to Bolton next week where I know he'll do his very best."

The Warrenpoint Town board also offered the highly regarded Hughes luck for the trial:

"On behalf of Warrenpoint Town, we would like to wish Daniel all the best on his trail. He is a true club ambassador and a perfect example of how local talent can progress. We will update everyone though social media and local press as Daniel progresses each day. Good luck Daniel!"

We'll be sure to keep a keen eye on those updates.
