GOSSIP: Bolton Wanderers take Dutch Centre Half on Trial

Bolton Wanderers have taken 22 year old Dutch centre-half Nick Kuipers on trial.

The 6ft 3in MVV Maastricht man arrived in the North West to undergo a 10 day trial, which is unusual given that he's a man of experience with almost 80 appearances to his name.

The defender started his career in his hometown with RKVVL/Polaris Maastricht, before leaving to join the MVV Maastricht academy. He was then promoted to the first team for the 2010/2012 season, making his senior debut in August 2010 against FC Volendam in a 2:2 draw in the Eerste Divisie.

It is being reported that his contract is to expire at the end of the coming season.

He seems to be a strong and pacey defender, who's very good at using his body strength to win back the ball and can use it intelligently once he has it. His timing for tackling seems on point and he looks strong in the air. It's easy to see why Lennon is interested in him.

He's even got a Youtube highlight reel in the mould of Daniel Braaten. That went well too. Actually, given the strength in numbers that Wanderers have at the back, any new arrival may hasten the departure of David Wheater who is still being linked with a move back to Middlesbrough.
